Homeschool Day: We Make You Kindly Welcome

Our fall Homeschool Day’s theme, “We Make You Kindly Welcome,” invites you to explore the theme of “welcome.” What does it mean to make someone “kindly welcome”? How are you welcoming to others? How are others welcoming to you?
Through the activities below, we hope that you will consider this theme and explore our wonderful buildings, visit our captivating animals, and consider the rich legacy of the Shakers.
SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES for HOMESCHOOLERS
• 10:30 am—Do an Herb Hunt for Health
• 11 am—Farm Friends: Meet a sheep and wash some wool
• 12:30—Learn a Shaker welcome song
• 1 pm—Watch the Water Turbine Demonstration
• 1:30 pm—Participate in Shaker Music & Dance
• 3 pm—Learn about Shaker Innovation: a show-and-tell
THROUGHOUT THE DAY ACTIVITIES
• Help us welcome YOU—Share your name by making a name tag
• Lessons in the Schoolhouse (11:30 am-1:30 pm)—Who are the Shakers?
• Blacksmithing in the Tannery (afternoon)
• Woodworking in the Tannery (1:30-4 pm)
• Weaving in the Sisters’ Shop (1-3 pm)
Homeschool discount of $5 on regular admission fees applies; library passes and members welcome. Pre-registration not required.
