Community

It is in this spirit of giving to the land that sustains us, and to the community that supports us that we continue the good work of the Shakers on our farm.

By providing daily tours we give thousands of visitors a year the unique opportunity to observe a thriving, sustainable farm up close.

We offer special workshops and talks about Shaker and Regenerative Agriculture.

We inspire and educate the next generation of farmers by providing volunteer opportunities, internships, and partnering with local youth and agriculture organizations like Roots Rising.

Our surplus seed is donated to the Berkshire Seed Library and distributed free of charge to Berkshire residents.

We believe that healthy food is for everybody. Each week a portion of our harvest is delivered to area food organizations.

Learning

Hancock Shaker Village is the oldest working farm in the Berkshires, including vegetable and medicinal herb gardens, livestock, and woodlands. The food we grow honors and preserves our land. We honor the Shaker tradition of regenerative farming: a holistic approach to agriculture that restores the biological balance of the soil. Please come visit – we’re open seven days a week, all day – for you to walk through the gardens, see the animals, and ask questions of our farmers and gardeners.

We hold weekly series in the summer: Planting Seeds, Open Stalls, and Row by Row. Due to COVID-19, these sessions have not yet been scheduled. Please check back for updates.

PLANTING SEEDS (1st Saturdays; 2 pm – start date TBD)
Get into the fields to plant, pick, taste, and learn. Bring your garden questions and get the dirt from  our farmers

OPEN STALLS (1st Sundays; 2 pm – start date TBD)
A chance to get friendly with our animals and learn how we care for them. Each week focuses on a species and its unique needs. If you’re feeling adventurous, lend a hand!

ROW BY ROW (other than the 1st Saturdays; 2 pm – start date TBD)
Walk the fields with a farmer and get an up-close look at how we use Shaker and regenerative farming to make our gardens grow. We’ll share what we are working on right now and give you the chance to help.
