Timber Framing Workshop: A Traditional Approach

Learn the traditional art of timber-framing in the beautiful setting of Hancock Shaker Village. During the five-day workshop, participants will cut, assemble, and raise a small timber-framed building using traditional hand tools.
About the Instructors
Neil Godden has been building timber frames since he got his start in this very class in 1997. Neil is the Executive Director and Operations Manager of the Heartwood School, he has been a timber frame contractor in Western Massachusetts since 2000, and he has been teaching Timber Framing since 1999. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and techniques for this time-tested craft, specializing in building traditional timber frames using primarily hand tools.
Adrian Almquist works as a carpenter and timber framer in the hills of Western Massachusetts. He began timber framing as an apprentice at the Heartwood school in 2021 and is committed to sharing what he has learned with others.
