In creating his mural for A Spirit of Gift, A Place of Sharing, artist Yusuke Asai from Tokyo searched our farm, forest, and creeks to source minerals and elements from which he made pigments. His careful and caring process of making is his way of paying respect to both the history of the land and the nourishing nature of the Earth. In “Soil Searching,” Asai will guide participants to make soil pigment paintings drawing inspiration from Asai’s imaginative creatures as well as the Shaker “gift” drawings. Your soil-colored drawing will become a contemporary artistic version of gift drawing to be exchanged with those done by other participants. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty! Workshop fee includes admission to the Village Monday May 30. Allow 90 minutes. Advance registration required. Don’t miss this special workshop. Register HERE.
The workshop is suitable for teens or adults, although there will be an optional soil pigment drawing area for children during the duration of the workshop.
