Meet our merinos and watch sheep get their annual haircuts. Sheep shearing is sure to delight the entire family. Throughout the weekend, follow the wool from sheep to cloak with demos of sheep-shearing (with champion shearer Fred DePaul), spinning, dying, and weaving. Learn how to spin and weave. See rarely-displayed Shaker-made woolen items, including the famous Shaker cloak. Meet regional fiber artisans. Get involved in hands-on activities and learn how fleece on sheep becomes a sweater. Make a woolly sheep in the Discovery Barn. On Saturday, bring needles and yarn and join a Sit ’n’ Knit, or join folk singer Tim Van Egmond at 11:30 am or 1 pm. On Saturday and Sunday at 11 am, author Elizabeth Cogswell reads her children’s book, A Lamb’s Life. Meet the new spring babies, too!
