Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead!

Come for a day devoted to exploring science, technology, engineering, art and math topics.

Registration not required.

Homeschool families receive $3 off adult and/or youth admissions, as applicable.  No coupon necessary—visitors should just identify themselves as homeschool parents/families. Kids 12 and younger are FREE thanks to the generous sponsorship of Berkshire Bank.

Library passes, NARM level members of other museums, and of course, HSV members are welcome.

Explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math at our historic village!

Schedule of Activities

(Unless otherwise noted, all programs listed below last about 20-30 minutes.)

10:30 am Round Stone Barn Tour—Why does a round barn make sense?  Find out why the Shakers used this shape to make farming more efficient.

11 am Walk the Farm & Forest Trail—Explore what’s growing in spring along the Village’s Farm and Forest trail with our interpreters John Parker.  Meet at the Brick Poultry House. (This walk lasts about 45 minutes)

11 am-12 pm The Mathematics of Weaving—Drop in the Sisters’ Dairy and Weave Shop to find out why math matters when making textiles.

12 pm The Shakers’ Water System Follow the Shakers’ impressive water power system through the Village Meet at the Laundry and Machine Shop

1 pm   The Power of Medicinal Herbs  How do plants make us well? Meet at the Garden Tool Shed

1:30 pm   Meet Veruca the Pig.  Why are pigs so smart?  Meet our prize pig, Veruca, to learn more about these special animals.

2 pm  Oval Box Bending Demonstration How did the Shakers make their oval boxes?  What’s so special about the oval shape? Find out during this demonstration. Brethren’s Shop

Throughout the Day

Gift Drawings Scavenger Hunt in the Visitor Center GalleryView these rarely-exhibited examples of spiritual art from Hancock Shaker Village’s own collection.  Look for birds, trees, lambs, and even a Shaker chair within the drawings.
