10 am “Days of Youth” What was it like to be a child in a Shaker village? HSV Curator Lesley Herzberg will answer that question and others in a special gallery talk of the new exhibition, “Days of Youth,” which features objects and photographs that bring the lives of Shaker children to life. She’ll also share the interactive “Living Portrait” of the Shakers.
11 am Sustainable Shakers. Many of the values that the Shakers embraced–sustainability, responsible land stewardship, innovation, simplicity, and quality in work – resonate for us today. Gather in the Brick Poultry House for an introduction to Shaker sustainability, then do the Sustainability Scavenger Hunt to find more ways that the Shakers provide good models for us, as we consider how to live thoughtfully in our ever-changing world. (Scavenger hunt is available all day.)
