Emerging Tastes is a creative three-day retreat to be held on July 19-22, 2018 at Hancock Shaker Village for food influencers and enthusiasts to explore new flavors and rethink old ones. Located in the heart of the Berkshire mountains of Western Massachusetts, Hancock Shaker Village is a ‘truly authentic experience,” according to a recent New York Times article, and in the center of an extraordinary region that the Times calls an ““epicenter of great food.” We’ll explore the landscape, the harvest and the kitchen as we imagine what a sustainable food system will look — and taste—like through the new flavors that are emerging as the world changes and realigns.
We’ll learn what foods will we eat as nature and our climate changes, what flavors will be plentiful, and how can we make what comes next more delicious. And we’ll enjoy meals cooked by some of the Berkshire’s most talented chefs including an open fire dinner with Heirloom Fire while listening to performers in the barn like singer songwriter Heather Maloney and The Autumn Defense (featuring alumnae of Wilco), and hear from noted author Chris Jennings, whose latest book looks at communities like the Shakers that “lived on the cusp of an incandescent future.”
