DESCRIPTION:Walk on the Wild Side \nFriday\, November 28 \n11 am AND 1 pm \nEscape the hectic pace of Black Friday with a leisurely guided walk on the Village’s one-mile Farm & Forest Trail. As we explore the end-of-autumn pasture and woods\, we’ll consider the Shakers’ relationship to the natural world and how the landscape has changed over time. In honor of Festival of Trees\, we’ll also examine a few special trees in the forest before ending the walk at the Round Stone Barn. There you can enjoy the holiday forest that awaits inside and visit our farm animals.  The walk will take about an hour and is suitable for all ages. For questions about accessibility\, please email cdickinson@hancockshakervillage.org.  The walk is included in admission and FREE to HSV and Berkshire Museum members.

The theme\, Barn to be Wild\, celebrates this year’s unique partnership between Berkshire Museum and host site Hancock Shaker Village – the oldest working farm in the Berkshires and home to one of the region’s most iconic round stone barns!  \nTickets are $20. Children 12 and under are always free. Berkshire Museum and Hancock Shaker Village members are free! Are you interested in a new take on holiday ornaments?  In this workshop you will learn to make a beautiful fabric ornament that requires no sewing–just a foam ball\, fabric and lots of straight pins. Several fabric color/pattern options will be available. \nNo experience needed\, although good fine motor skills in your fingers are important. Sandy teaches basket-weaving and other classes like this one in her home studio as well as at Shaker Heritage Society in Watervliet\, New York\, and at Hancock Shaker Village.

DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, April 22 (rain date: Thursday\, April 23) \nPrograms at 11:30 am & 1:30 pm  \nIncluded in admission; program will take place within the Village near the Round Stone Barn.  \nFolksinger and storyteller Tim Van Egmond presents “Barnyard Critters In Herds\, Flocks & Litters” at Baby Animals!  All ages are welcome for this family program of multicultural songs and folk tales about farm animals. Sing along with the Cuban song “Los Pollitos” about baby chicks in Spanish and English\, repeat the refrain in the French tale “Bâtis\, Bâtis! (Build\, Build!)\,” answer “Yes Sir!” in rhythm to the African American call-and-response game “Did You Feed My Cow?\,” and more! Tim will play a fascinating array of instruments\, including guitar\, hammered dulcimer\, mountain dulcimer\, an Andean rattle made with goat hoof trimmings\, and a horse limberjack (a wooden puppet that taps out a rhythm dancing on a paddle). (Build\, Build!)\,” answer “Yes Sir!” in rhythm to the African American call-and-response game “Did You Feed My Cow?\,” and more! Tim will play a fascinating array of instruments\, including guitar\, hammered dulcimer\, mountain dulcimer\, an Andean rattle made with goat hoof trimmings\, and a horse limberjack (a wooden puppet that taps out a rhythm dancing on a paddle). By making three items\, you will learn to start a broom three times so that you have the knowledge and practice to try it on your own! \nThe Turkey Wing Whisk Broom dates back well over 200 years when all you had were grasses\, twigs and string to fasten a broom together. This broom will use a low-sugar content of sorghum for broom making and a variety of strong nylon string. Your Turkey Wing broom will be great for cleaning car mats\, small rugs\, craft tables\, work benches and more. They are very functional\, make wonderful gifts and are lovely to display. \nThe pot or veggie scrubber can be used to clean stubborn pots OR dirty vegetables.  The cake tester is an old-fashioned utensil with straws that you break off and insert into your cake to check for doneness.
