Then the twill pattern\, woven in natural reed\, continues up the sides. Optional staining or dying the basket\, on your own\, will be discussed. No experience needed\, suitable for ages 14 and up. \nBasket size: 8.5” tall by 9” diameter. \nINSTRUCTOR: A basket maker since 1995\, Sandy Salada weaves a variety of baskets\, including patterns of her own design\, patterns by other teachers\, and reproductions of cultural and historical baskets. Designed for the curious beginner who wants to learn more about the mushrooms they’ve seen\, this outdoor program led by a Mass Audubon naturalist will explore the fundamentals of mushroom identification and share recent research about the ecological roles they fulfill. You’ll leave with inspiration and recommended resources for your next outdoor adventure. This program does not include information about foraging for edible mushrooms\, will not provide training that can be applied to mushroom collecting\, and will take place at a location where collecting mushrooms is prohibited. DESCRIPTION:Timber Framing Workshop:  A Traditional Approach \nDate: Wednesday-Sunday\, September 23-27\, 2026 (five-day workshop) \nTime:  9 am-5 pm \nWorkshop Content \nLearn the traditional art of timber-framing in the beautiful setting of Hancock Shaker Village. During the five-day workshop\, participants will cut\, assemble\, and raise a small timber-framed building using traditional hand tools. \nAbout the Instructors \nNeil Godden has been building timber frames since he got his start in this very class in 1997. Neil is the Executive Director and Operations Manager of the Heartwood School\, he has been a timber frame contractor in Western Massachusetts since 2000\, and he has been teaching Timber Framing since 1999. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and techniques for this time-tested craft\, specializing in building traditional timber frames using primarily hand tools. \nAdrian Almquist works as a carpenter and timber framer in the hills of Western Massachusetts. You will weave the broomcorn onto a handle and then sew to bring everything together. \nOne bunch of colored broomcorn is included in the registration fee. You will make a short handled broom with a finished smooth wooden handle and all natural broom corn. You will have your color choice of nylon string and a small bunch of either black or red broom corn to add a splash of color or mix into your broom.  \nIn this workshop you will learn how to hand tie your broom to the handle\, then how to sew the broom together. This broom is a very handy size for sweeping front porches and staircases and cleaning around furniture and hearths. Children love them\, too.
